Frequently Asked Questions
-
1. Initial Consultation
The process begins with an opportunity to briefly connect, discuss what brings you to counselling, and determine whether the services offered feel like a good fit for your needs.
2. First Session
The first session focuses on getting to know you and understanding your goals, concerns, and experiences. We will also review confidentiality, answer questions about the counselling process, and begin identifying areas of focus for therapy.
3. Ongoing Sessions
Ongoing sessions provide a supportive space to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and life experiences in greater depth. Together, we work toward developing insight, coping strategies, emotional awareness, and meaningful change at a pace that feels manageable and collaborative.
4. Growth & Progress
As counselling progresses, many clients begin to notice increased self-awareness, improved coping skills, healthier communication, and greater confidence in navigating life’s challenges. Therapy goals may evolve over time as new insights and priorities emerge.
5. Transition or Maintenance
Some clients attend counselling for a shorter period focused on a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term support. As goals are achieved, sessions may become less frequent or shift toward maintenance and ongoing personal growth.
-
This depends on your goals and circumstances. Some people attend for a few sessions focused on a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. We will regularly review your goals together.
-
Not at all. Many people seek counselling for personal growth, relationship concerns, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, or simply wanting additional support.
-
Most couples sessions involve both partners attending together, though individual sessions will be recommended depending on the situation and goals.
-
No. Sex therapy involves conversation, education, emotional processing, and therapeutic exercises — there is no physical or sexual contact involved in sessions.
-
The therapeutic relationship is important. If something does not feel like a good fit, it is okay to discuss it openly or seek a counsellor who better meets your needs.
